Subject: Arduino Quad Deployment initiated by phone
Deprecated; there is now a newer version of this design. New Rev 2 listed here: https://www.insanerocketry.com/main/displaymessagelist/-5758789762341846124/ This is a test Bluetooth Nano 33 BLE driven Arduino module to handle quad deployment and read several inputs at the same time. This module is working well and has flown several times. Since first design of software, I have increased the performance of packet transfer to over 20 times a second. It could be faster but I want to test for falloff of battery time before I do so. Each channel can handle up to 2amps load when engaging igniter. All tests have proven that is more than enough for standard fireworks based igniters or Q2G2 even when two or three are wired in parallel (you should use series for fireworks based, that's how they are designed to work.) The battery for this unit appears to last as long as one attached to stratologger. My software is fault tolerant. If the battery is low and fails to keep the computer online during deployment, the ardunio computer will simply reboot and will be ready within less than 10 seconds. This device ties in well for multi-staging, servos, etc. Testing as proven high reliability and I can't imagine me going back to any type of wired connection between phone and remote deployment.I'll end up swapping the USB based controller in my launcher to using the same type of device, except beefed up to handle massive amps per channel. Updates to the module occurred for the NEXT rocket here: https://www.insanerocketry.com/main/displaymessagelist/-3711951308618969595/ Images
Let me know when you go to SRA to test that out !
This has flown successfully once in October. Look forward to more flights using it - will do. frewi80 on 2020-03-20 20:00:31Z wrote:

Update: This has controlled primary deployment in the rocket a total of 5 times as of October 2021. On 9/18, I had an intermittent power issue caused by a bad battery connector. The power issue was of no fault of the arduino ble (or my custom software driver), but rather the terminal connection with the 9v battery. The battery connector was replaced with a more robust custom made connector. Usage then occurred nominally on 10/9.
