Was planning to fly this rocket at SRA on December 15. But weather is not looking good. Rain and high winds. Also my point was to pick up my L3 motor an M1101 for the Thunderstruck, but Bernie will not be there, he is having some real health issues for now. Hope he will be better soon. Still have to return the 98 6XL casing to Jason. Will arrange that in the next few weeks.
Update 01/13/2019 - It looks like January 19th is a GO. Weather looks great and warm. My rocket is already halfway prepped. Will install the charges on Friday. Have a bunch of items to charge up. Will be using my Iphone to record video and data. Looking forward to this day already ! Also will pick up my M1011 motor from Bernie. An also meet Jason Cook to double check the measure on the Aeropack 98 mm retainer.
Update 01/16/2019 - Tested the stratologgers and batteries, all good = 9.22 Volts. Also this rocket will fly on a K454 skidmark to around 5 K.
Update 01/17/2019 - Started charging all my electronics - Phones (2) - RTX (2) - Camera's (2) - Little cameras (2) and Whistle GPS and GRMS radio's. Connected and loaded all the charges. Chutes are loaded and dog barf applied in booster and nose cone section.
Update 01/18/2019 - Getting very thing in the car.. Re charging Whistle / RTX / and phones. It will be all tight in the booster, but it has to go in there. 4 grain motor might give a but more space. Hope I can fly my skidmark. Conditions were pretty dry before in Palm Bay. If not I will get a 3 grain motor from Bernie. Florence is coming with me so there will be lots of pictures.. haha
Update 01/19/2019 - LAUNCH DAY - Great day and a bit windy. But all a GO, prepping was a breeze, no problem with Av Bay and phone and other devices... Did not install any shear pins. Thinking for this 'low' speed' and altitude not needed, but oh boy was I wrong. Main came out at apogee and result was a 3500 feet drive and some walk ! Clayton was there to assist. Great guy, we took his car and after a few wrong turn at one of the canals we had the right side located and indeed there was the rocket softly hanging in the bushes ! No damage, and on the edge of a canal. Flight was great, Tim set the angle at 4 degrees but with the main out at apogee it was indeed still a long walk. The sparky motor ignited a fire nearby, really scary fire that was soon under control. I guess I will gave up on sparkies for now, because after my rocket 'fire' we had another huge fire from a different launch that needed 8 fire trucks to assist !! Deep and Tim took excellent images. I do have great video and data from the Iphone !! That performs so great ! Jason was also there to give the tenna a test with his software in IR. Feeling bad about the fires that day. I guess the rocket performed exactly the altitude as simmed... Have to check on the battery of the RTX hand hold part, died a bit to soon but got all the coordinates.
