Description
Getting this rocket ready for the next Bunnell Launch at the new field. I hope sparkies are allowed because this rocket needs a skidmark to launch. Also having another rocket ready in case sparkies are NOT allowed !. Selected motor = J250 SK 2 grain !
Update 08/16/2019 - Made already the charges (4) for this rocket, will be flying with an 82 feet streamer to around 2000 feet!
Update 08/17/2019 - Loaded the rocket with the drogue charge in a dog-barf wrap all the way in the bottom of the booster close to the motor casing. Also dit made the Z-ties on the shock cords, both main and streamer. Did not load the chute or the streamer, will wait till the last minute if sparkies are allowed.
Update 09/10/2019 - Planning to launch this rocket this coming weekend... Weather forecast does not look good, some rain on Saturday. We'll see and wait, if not it will be Palm Bay next weekend.
Update 09/11/2019 - Checked the weather forecast - 80 % rain on Saturday, will wait till Friday to find out.
Update 09/13/2019 - Also there was a huge loop with a very very thighknot, I was able to get the knot out and gained like a foot long kevlar cord again.
Update 09/14/2019 - Launch cancelled due to stormy winds and rain in the forecast. There is indeed a storm coming in off-coast with heavy winds and some rain. Will fly this rocket at the next launch - September 28, 2019.
Update 09/21/2019 - Loaded the charges and the streamer and chute (main). Had to open up the shear pin holes in the nose cone section...Added a lot of dog barf. Ready for next weekend. Just have to load the motor when we have a go.
Update 09/24/2019 - Loaded the 2 grain Skidmark motor into the 3 grain casing with spacer.. Added 2 extra O-rings to front and back of motor and used grease to slide in casing. All set and taped off. For this flight I'm using a 65" Micheal West parachute with little spill hole.
Also Stratologgers tested out and ready for Launch.
Update 09/26/2019 - Off rail speed is a bit low 42 ft/sec, so I have a back up motor to go if weather conditions are to windy Blue streak J293 BS @ 46 ft/sec take off speed from rail.
Update 09/28/2019 - LAUNCH DAY - Started with dark cloud cover and drizzle all morning, off and on, but we decided to launch anyway, drizzle was very light and had some dry moments in between, actually stopped around 11 am... No issues with installing the sled and Iphone.. Used RTX and Dog tracker and had signal instantly. I used the J250 SK anyway despite the ow take off speed - 42 ft/sec... Rocket launched great off the pad, hardly any winds, streamer came out nicely and main deployed without any tangle, I guess I found that sweet spot to connect the streamer to the shock cord. Rocket landed in field nearby.
Have great video and date from the Iphone ! streamer performed great !

Good luck. I am on the fence about new field.

40 fps off the rail? Wow, that scares me. Hope there is no wind Freddy!
Good catch, Tim.
For the basic standard fps off the rail answer:"Minimum Speed for Stable Flight 44 fps (30mph) is generally accepted as a minimum safe speed for stable flight and is good for winds up to 5 mph. Faster speeds are necessary to achieve stability in windy conditions so add 9 fps (6 mph) for each additional 1 mph of wind speed."
FYI: I added a few random notes to the bottom of my black powder calculator page https://www.insanerocketry.com/blackpowder.html Please review and let me know if I should adjust or add more detail. For example, I know the target speed for main is recommended at 20FPS. I didn't elaborate and say that most people shoot for 25FPS. Maybe I should adjust to 20-25FPS.
If there's any other misc facts you'd like me to add down there, let me know.

It's been a rare day when I have had no wind so I always shoot for 60 fps on all my launches. Worse case, make sure to ude a longer rail & adjust the sim for rail length.I'll have a look at your random notes. Thanks.
