Subject: Bay Redesign For Solid State Relay Dual Deployment
This was still a work in progress on the last launch, so I didn't take pix. The new bay was used on the last launch, however. The core bay components are from LOC, but I didn't use their smaller plywood for sled design. I also did not use any of their metal hardware. This redesign was long overdue because of the drastic change in electronics housed in the bay. AKA I needed more space. Like the last bay, there are no disconnects with any of the wiring. All wiring is glued or zip-tied near connectors to inhibit yanking at the ends when performing maintenance. The wiring is 22 / 4 stranded CU shielded security wire. This wiring is rugged and isn't as prone to RFI leakage especially if sleeve shield is grounded properly. While using kevlar loops is now popular on bay design, it was unheard of when I started making bays like this. Since the bulkheads are not load bearing, they are secured with 1/4" nylon screws. The electronics board slides into the groove, drawer style. Images | ||||
You can get the shielded cable by the foot. I believe it is $0.34 per foot (4 wire) at any home depot. The details online are wrong for the by the foot - so I'm not posting the link. Here's the details by the roll: For heavier duty, like using for launcher wire, use 18 gauge. It's nice. |
