The case protector for the Nexus 5x phone seems to be the #1 contributor to it not disappating heat. I have cut some holes over the battery and cpu to help it stay cool. It has already shown a significant change in the amount of heat the phone operates at.
I want to keep it on as it does provide less chance of pushing a button while loading the phone in the rocket and it provides a bit of shock absorption.
I looked at the Nexus 5x teardown to find out where the battery and CPU were located to find out where to cut the case protector.

Is that a problem with the lack of heat dissipation?
My previous bay did not have an issue with heat dissipation of the phone but this bay does. Part of it was the shock cushion I made that was covering a huge portion of the phone, effectively insulating and stopping it from cooling. I have reduced the cushion so that the phone can breath.
The plastic phone protector cover with the square holes in it will help a lot.
This is part of the series of mods I am making so I address this for summer time. 4K video creates a lot of heat too as it pushes the phone quite a bit.
My phone was 20 degrees from shutting down, the battery temperature was at 120 degrees, which is considred safe but I find that too hot. The phone shuts down if the battery reaches 140 degrees.

Got it. Another question about 4k video - I guess you need a monitor capable of that resolution, no?

To view the video at full screen you do. But, if you want to zoom in, you can on a 1080p and you'll see more details. This can be done with VLC Media player on the original video - I don't know if it works on a youtube link at 4k. Also, if you create a screen shot, you have excellent resolution and can zoom. Click on the pic, and view Original resolution. You can then crop an image like this and still have excellent resolution left-over.
