This launch was a tough one for me since the exact same rocket and exact same motor had CATOed on my previous attempt on 2015-05-02.
It was hard to the sleep the night prior and I haven't felt as stressed since my N1100 flight of the Mighty Nutcracker in Colorado.
The ascent, while estimated in OpenRocket, was very fast. It was so fast it was tough for me to keep up with it in video and I'm disappointed with my footage.
Not much wind, but I added a 2 degree east tilt to coax it away from the canal as upper level winds were expected for a south drift.
Spectacular straight up flight, people, and easy recovery only 805 feet from launch!
18 rotations in the 26.1 second ascent. On video that's plenty of spin to make you dizzy!
GPS got a lock really fast and made for excellent compare data if you open launch20150905_114846_458.csv.
While both stratologgers report roughly 735 MPH, I prefer to trust computed speed 664 MPH off of Gs that is provided by iPhone as that appears to be in alignment with the OpenRocket estimate (estimate was 663 MPH).
Drogue (average) descent was 65 feet per second.
Main (average) descent was 19.6 feet per second. Launch with K261 at NEFAR, same chute, was 22 feet per second
Thanks Paul Stohr for making it and the excellent photos.
