PHOENIX - EIGHT FLIGHT

The PHOENIX will fly in July, hoping for clear skies and not to hot. Probably will not fly in August since I'm going to Kansas / Cloud busters event.

Update 06/21/2021 - This rocket will have the 85 feet streamer in it and an booster camera on the shock cord and RTX gps.

Update 07/12/2021 - Weather looks good for Saturday, change of rain, like always there, winds are 9 mph. Jeff will be there and also Jason. Have to see Bernie for my stuff for Kansas 75 mm XL casing and M2245 motor. If he does not have it well than I cancel Kansas. getting tired of last minute deals. For now I will be prepping my Phoenix rocket some more. Prepped the booster today, charge is in, embedded in dog barf than the streamer with chute protector, dog barf on top and 2 Z-ties. Will do the rest tomorrow.

Update 07/14/2021 - Tested the stratologgers Main and Backup, all good. Will continue prepping the front bay. Also selected the right sled for the AvBay the other one was way to tight when sliding in. So I have to pay attention which sled I'm using in the future. Had to fix a fiberglass piece that holds the phone in place, it came off when handling the sled, all fixed !

Update 07/15/2021 - Prepped the front bay, folded chute in protector, finished with dog barf, all good in there... 3 shear pins. Loaded the charges, 1.8 grams/2.0 grams main - 2.0 grams / 2.2 grams booster. Replaced the lipo battery on the RTX rocket unit. old one did not charge and it had some kind of a problem the previous launch. So now all good.

Update 07/16/2021 - Loaded the car. Still charging batteries and camera's. Will give the RTX an extra charge. Then I will tape the camera and RTX to the chock cord. iPhone charged.

Update 07/17/2021 - LAUNCH DAY - Nice day, cloud cover was around 25 %, lots of blue skies. Assisted Jason for his firstlaunch and recovery. Took a while Main came out and rocket drifted a bit far away but nice easy recovery. Prepping my rocket was easy, all fitted nice in there, activated the GoPro camera and the RTX put the rocket together and took it to the pad. Did a slight angle. Went up real nice and took a little turn to the East. Streamer came out and landed like 1200 feet away, almost the same area were my other rocket landed last month !!! Got video from iPhone and also from the GoPro ground and on the shock cord. By examining the rocket I noticed that the paint on the booster was cracked and that the top section had also a mark, I guess those two parts must collided in mid air violently. Also the main charge for the drogue did not fire, that's the same one that I used last time and did not fire either that tine. I noticed that the wire at the head part were exposed and touching. So I will redo that charge with a new igniter. All good and cleaned out for now, lots of pictures again.
