Frenzy XL-afraid
2021-08-07 12:52:00ZDescription
It turned out everyone was afraid when it cleared the pad. Not a good launch. Weather was perfect. No wind. Unfortunately the altimeters never armed either since rocket never got above 300 feet so no data to review. I would guess 150 feet max. Anyhow, rocket cleared pad and the slowed down and took a right turn and continued to fly about 30 degrees away from LCO. The rocket at one point hit the ground and then skipped it and continued to fly horizontally and then hit some trees pretty frigging hard. It's amazing that the altimeters survived once I opened AV Bay. Had GPS in NC but never found NC. Gone. Also had video attached to air frame but that too is gone. Would have been pretty cool to see. Also used RF tracking which survived which is how I found rocket about 1/2 mile from pad.
Sad for lots of reasons but I liked that rocket.
Not sure what happened yet but early diagnosis says motor never made full pressure. I ran 3 sims prior to launch since it was a long burn and every one said motor was sufficient for this rocket. Going to talk to Loki and see what his thoughts are. Motor gurus at launch think same thing. When they saw thrust curve, they said "Hmm". That motor never hit it's initial thrust. The flame looked pretty wimpy too.....................

Indeed sad story.
