Lining up this ZODIAC CRUISER rocket to fly on a 2 grain motor, at low(er) altitudes. Hoping for easy recovery. Will be using the chute release also to test that all is working fine. Tim will not be there, hoping that Eric, Jason and Clayton will be around.
Update 02/03/2018 - Made the charges. only the drogue charges, I will be using the chute release, so the main is in the same lower body compartment as the drogue, very very little space in the front compartment. It can be done if I use the drogue in the front and the main in the lower booster. But I just want to test the chute release again.. Drogue will be 24" and main a 50" chutes. The first charge is in the 2 gram containerfrom Chris Allbright. And i taped some dag barf around it to protect the wall and the chock cord a bit, No need actually but just giving it an extra protection. So the drogue is on the first quick-link to come out first and the main is on the second quick-link so the nose cone does not hit the booster when they are drifting down..
Total weight, with no motor or casing, 3.363 grams - Fully loaded, Iphone, trackers, Avbay complete.
Update 02/09/2018 - Last minute modification. Testing out the RTX, used an extended antenna that wired will go through the lower booster vent hole, so I hope I can pick up a signal for continuesdata. Might not work, just a test. RTX does not fit in the nose cone, my bad, had to know that and create more space in there and also the Carbon Fiber issue.
Update 02/10/2018 - LAUNCH DAY - Seems like very windy day on the field. Jason and Clayton were already there and Jason was prepping his rocket. I started to prep my rocket also and hoping that Bernie had the J250 SK motor - 2 grain - prepping went smooth... most was already done at home. So just turning the RTX on and wrap the main chute first and slide in all the way in the booster...then RTX taped and with Quicklink on the drogue, slide in drogue chute with Whistle tracker taped on the shock cord..all in topped of with dogbarf.. Jason launched first.. at a strong angle, and after that I used his launch rod with the same angle..must have been 8 degrees or so.. Had all my camera's ready, and also the RTX hand hold to record the data by phone, a setup that i made the last minute.. All well, rocket took off great on the Skidmark motor, surprisedly loud and powerfull for a two grain... Drogue came out at Apo...and tumbled down nicely, but then it seems that the chute release dit not work, so the rocket landed with drogue only in a soft field... while going to recover my rocket, Brian Coyle called me that he found my rocket, his came down ballistic and probably the fincan was only visible above the ground, very hard to spot. I had to walk through a soaked wet area to get to my rocket. All seems to have worked great, even the chute release was open but it looked that the chute bundle got stuck in the tie that holds the chute release to the shock cord., but it worked that is the main concern!!!..while going back to the car i felt severe pains in my chest and had to sit and lay down many times, good thing that Brain was there to look for his rocket and he kept me close, so we both stumbled back...We also encountered a nurse on the field and she suggested not to drive home, i just want to drive home and pick up Florence and go to the emergency room... Jason was following me home to look after me that i was ok, so i picked up Florence drove home, took a few hours nap and Ross and Imee got us to the Memorial Hospital on University ....Recovering now and feeling much better. .... Surgery was a success , got 3 stents in my heart and life continues asusual I hope..
